Chiru wants Charan to do Abu and Alladdin stories

Chiranjeevi entertained movie lovers as a mass hero for many years but mythology and folklore are areas which he never did. Now after seeing the kind of response Magadheera got in its first week, Chiranjeevi expressed his desire to see his son in fantasy roles like Allauddin , Abu - Bagdhad thief etc which he could not try in his career

He also wanted to see his son playing adventure movies and warrior characters like one in Magadheera. But charan's next 4 movies are planned already and none of them are closer to Chiru's dreams Lets see if Charan takes a bold step to enact something interesting.

Magadheera became the talk of town over last 1 week and it broke all records by collecting Rs.10 crores of day 1 itself.
Now the estimated collections for 1st week are around Rs.22 crores and with no competition around for atleast 2 weeks, Magadheera is expected to break all records set by previous hit movies in telugu cinema industry

Magadheera to be released in Tamil with slight modifications

The producers of Magadheera are seriously debating to see if they can take the film in to Tamil by partially reshooting the film with Tamil artists. They are thinking of replacing portions of Srihari and the comedians to give it a Tamil look and feel.

However the director Rajamouli has not given his opinion as he is away on a holiday. Magadheera has taken tremendous time and effort on Rajamouli part and would he want to do it all over again is a question’ he alone can answer.

This could be the main reason for not releasing telugu version in Tamilnadu and Chennai.

RAMCHARAN'S MAGADHEERA PRABANJANAM

Gemini offers never heard price for Magadheera

Gemini TV has offered a fancy never heard of price to Allu Aravind for Magadheera’s satellite rights in order to make sure Maa TV does not get it. Allu Aravind is a director of Maa TV is desperately trying to workout the numbers to see if there is anyway they can come up with a similar offer if not a better price to retain the rights. The price offered is believed to be 5.5 Crore.

S S RAJAMOULI'S INTERVIEW ABOUT MAGADHEERA

S S Rajamouli's latest film Magadheera starring Ram Charan Teja (Chiranjeevi's son) and Kajal Agarwal had perhaps one of the biggest openings in Telugu. The reincarnation saga -- a part-period, part modern film -- was lapped up by the audience.

A relaxed Rajamouli spoke about his 'magnum opus' a day after its release. Excerpts:

Are you happy with the way Magadheera has been received? Were you apprehensive about its performance?

I am obviously happy [laughs]. What else can one ask for? My cousin in San Jose said that tickets were priced more than a Hollywood movie. The film has got a tremendous reception. I was not apprehensive though the people's expectations made me tense. Normally I am a cool person and don't get tense before a release but this time the expectations were too much.
When you were entrusted the task of directing Charan by Chiranjeevi garu, did you first think of the reincarnation theme or were there other ideas? Reincarnation is not often used in Telugu cinema. Is that why you chose it?

Actually, I first thought of mythology/folklore at least partly. Charan's image and body language would suit that kind of get-up. The theme of reincarnation has been with my father for quite some time. So when we narrated the story, Chiranjeevi garu okayed it. To reach out to the commercial aspects, we had song, dances and fights. We had the best of both worlds.

Did Chiranjeevi agree to the story? What were his inputs, if any?

He has vast experience and knows everything. He said the story was okay. He gave a few suggestions, more to do with finer nuances and asked we could use if we liked them. We did incorporate a few of them.

Doing such a film, almost a magnum opus, involves great hard work and research even though it's a fantasy tale. How did you do it?

Working hard is a pleasure. I enjoyed every second of it. We did research for the film.

Technically Magadheera is brilliant. Is this why the film has been in the making for two years? How did you achieve the technical brilliance?

The delay happened because of the time it took for the detailing in the film. Second, the stuntmen's strike also delayed the shoot. The main person Kamal, the VFX producer, was linked to 500-600 individuals and companies. It was a huge job. There were many who contributed to this technical brilliance.

You made Charan do a lot of hard work in terms of learning horse racing, sword fighting, bike stunts... Did he do all the serious stunt/fight scenes himself?

Charan is also a horse rider. He had to just brush up horse riding for the film. He did everything himself, every single shot. There was no duplicate used.

How was it directing him?

He's quite a cool guy and is not like a megastar's son. He is normal and down-to-earth.
'I wanted somebody good looking, like a princess...Kajal met those prerequisites'

On what basis did you choose the film's heroine, Kajal Aggarwal?

I saw her first in Lakshmi Kalyanam and liked her work. She was supposed to do Yamadonga but it didn't work out. I wanted somebody good looking, who would look like a princess and who had dates available. Kajal met those prerequisites.

How did you land up doing a love story which I think you are not comfortable doing? Will you do more love stories now that you have done one?

I forced myself to do. I can't avoid or escape. I will do more definitely.

You were tight-lipped about the film before its release? Was this a deliberate decision?

I never discuss the film before the release. After the trailer was released, there was tremendous impact. We also had no time to do anything beyond that.

Would you like to say something about Senthil (DOP), Ravinder (art director) and the editor?

Senthil and Ravi are my two pillars. The kind of detailing they did was enormous. The editor (Rajamouli calls him Chanti) is also my guru. If he would not have edited the film, we couldn't have released it on time. He was not just the editor, he took charge of everything singlehandedly -- all the post-production work.

I must mention Peter Haynes (stunts coordinator) who is a bundle of energy. No one knows he's the stunt coordinator till he comes on the set. He will be meddling around with everything. He knows everything from welding, tinkering to mechanics. He uses all his knowledge to get his shot right. He's the best stunt coordinator we have.

He met with an accident on the sets, had two broken ribs, fractured hands and jaw and lost all his teeth. Within a month, he was back on the sets with his face and body covered in bandages and plaster. He could barely lift his hands to shoot. That was the kind of dedicated technicians I had.
'Keeravani is the main support of Magadheera'

Your wife, Rama's costumes and styling is excellent...

Yes, Kajal looked good. She [Rama] didn't dump her with jewellery and clothes. When the clothes were brought to me, I would ask, is that all and she would say, yes. She's stubborn. In the Bhairavakona episode, a serious scene, she made Kajal wear a dress of baby pink and pista green. When I told her this had to be changed, she didn't budge. She said that Kajal would stand separate and not get mixed up with the others. Though I did not agree at that point initially, later when I saw the edit, I agreed on that.

Keeravani is a constant as far as your music is concerned...

Keeravani is the main support of the film. He's like a doctor who dissects the story -- the good and the bad points, what should be changed, what should not be there. He should have been a mathematician. For Magadheera he made the tunes slow, melodic and classy. There were reports that the music is not good but he had the foresight to see it would go down well with the film.

What was Chiranjeevi's comment after seeing the film?

I showed him the pre-final edit. He liked it immensely. He was thrilled and congratulated the team wholeheartedly. He had a few suggestions. One main one was that the film was a bit lengthy after the 100-men fight sequence and he felt it should be trimmed. We adhered to that suggestion and trimmed the film accordingly.
'I am trying a new genre -- a thriller with no comical acts'

Were you worried at any point that you were doing a high-budget extravaganza?

Just towards the end of the film, I was. We were always given the green signal and told not to think about economics. It was only after the release of the trailer and the hype that I got tense.

A word about the producers...

I was working with Allu Aravind garu for the first time but I had worked with Prasad garu before in Chhatrapati. Prasad garu is also a close friend. The only thing I would like to say is, please don't give me the freedom, for I can't bear it.

What is your next film Maryada Ramana about?

I'm thinking of releasing it by the end of the year. I am trying a new genre -- a thriller with no comical acts but which will nevertheless induce laughter.

Charan fulfilled my absense in movies : Chiranjeevi

Megastar Chiranjeevi is very very happy with the successes of his son's Magadheera film.
He proudly said
' My entire PRP cadre is enjoying the success of Magadheera. This is the biggest hit of industry and made with highest budget.
I am very happy that Charan reached to top so early. My absence in the industry is fulfilled by Charan

STOP PIRACY

MAGADHEERUDU KI TALAVANCHINA RECORDLU

For example, in a territory like Guntur Pokiri collected a share of 1 crore in 15 days (which was an unbeatable record at that time). Pawan Kalyan’s Jalsa collected a share of 1.16 crores in 1 week and Magadheera amassed a share of 1.16 crores in 3 days.

In a place like Kadapa, Arundhati holds the record for collecting the highest share. And Magadheera movie is going to cross that entire share in the first week itself.

Magadheera was released in 14 screens of Vijayawada city. It created another record in INOX multiplex by playing all five shows in all three screens on day one by collecting record breaking houseful revenues.

Magadheera was released with 101 prints in Nizam and collected a share of 4.5 crores in four days. On the day one itself, it collected 2 crores. Magadheera will collect a share of 7 crores in Nizam in first week itself.

Magadheera is expected to collect around 18 crores of share in the first week itself.

Grand successes of films like Arundhati and Magadheera will inspire Telugu filmmakers to come forward and spend more money on grandeur and quality of film making to dish out rich movies to film lovers.

Magadheera to collect 60 crores share in total run

Magadheera is all set to collect a recording breaking share of 60 crores in the total run, as per the trade reports pouring in from all the centers.Pokiri was the film that have collected over 46 crores in the total run.

Magadheera film was released with unanimous sensational hit talk on the day one and despite of being the biggest release with maximum number of prints in maximum number of screens, it is going housefuls all over the state even on the fifth day. And the trade experts are seeing no drop on revenues in the coming weeks as the movie lovers are waiting for a grand extravaganza after Sankranthi hit Arundhati. And Magadheera is proving to be the movie which Telugu film lovers have been asking for all this while.
Ram Charan Teja took off from where Chiranjeevi left the film industry. And the frenzy and craze for Magadheera movie is double that of Chiranjeevi’s Indra and Tagore in the recent past. Magadheera is being embraced by every movie lover without any (a, b, c, d or multiplex) center bias.

Rajamouli has become Telugu’s Shankar. Shankar’s movies create superb openings as he is known for churning out blockbusters one after another with strong technical values. Rajamouli too is proving to be a man with terrific script sense and ability to adapt Hollywood techniques to mesmerise the crowds of Andhra Pradesh.

RAMCHARAN'S Magadheera Bangalore Craze

Article in bangalore mirror

Tickets in black for Chiranjeevi’s son’s movie Magadheera went for Rs 800, more than 12 times their usual price

By Bangalore Mirror Bureau
Posted On Saturday, August 01, 2009

The crowd in one of the theatres forced the 11.30 am show of Magadheera to be screened at 10.30 am itself

Movie tickets in black returned with a bang in the city and how! Tickets in black for Chiranjeevi’s son Ramcharan Teja’s movie Magadheera were sold for as high as Rs 800. That’s a rise of 1231 per cent, with a balcony ticket usually costing Rs 65.

Surprisingly, some theatres advanced the shows. The morning show was to begin at 11.30 am in a theatre in Bangalore North. However the audience forced the theatre to start the show at 10.30 itself. Those who came to the theatre at 11.30 am had to pay a hefty sum. In another theatre in city centre, there were hardly any tickets available at counters while they were easily available in black.

“The tickets are sold more than 10 times the cost even in the presence of police,” said Anita, a college student. Ravi, another college student, said, “I decided to go for the movie as it was a holiday. However, I was disappointed to hear that tickets were sold out. With no option, I had to shell out Rs 500.”

According to movie analysts, Magadheera is one of the biggest regional language movies released in recent years. The last time tickets were sold for exorbitant prices were for the Rajanikanth starrer Sivaji in 2007. Though, many movies have been released since then, they failed to create an impact on the box office. There has not been any big Telugu film released recently as most filmstars were busy canvassing for politics. With Chiranjeevi, who has a considerable fan following in the City almost announcing retirement from commercial movies, the demand for his son’s movie skyrocketed on Friday.

Costliest movie
Moreover, the movie had created a hype as it is the costliest Telugu movie till date. The production cost has been estimated to be above Rs 35 crore. Magadheera is Teja’s second film
